Social Integration on the Cultural and Religious Interfaces of Europe
The SICRIE Project partnership (SICRIE stands for Social Integration on the Cultural and Religious Interfaces of Europe) set out to address some of the traditional stereotypes, historical prejudice and ignorance or fear that sometimes hinders meaningful interaction and integration as the movement of people within Europe increases. The partnership, drawn from Northern Ireland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Lithuania, agreed to collect and share stories and images of the various experiences of integration or exclusion of those living on cultural and religious interfaces within their communities. The thinking behind the project was based on the conviction that there can be significant social leverage in defusing misunderstanding if those who provide community leadership through voluntary organisations are given the opportunity to encounter one another with their different stories. Participants have come from a wide range of life experiences, age groups and educational opportunities.Project activities have centred on visits to each of the four partner locations and included cultural tours, shared meals and workshops. Reports and photographs covering partnership activities can be found on the website www.sicrieproject.org. One of our key outcomes is the development of a web based ‘Integration and Interaction Toolkit’ (www.sicrieproject.org/toolkit_map.html). Besides providing a record of the partnership activities the Toolkit includes a set of presentations from each of the partners addressing issues within their particular context which have relevance and significance across the European family. Presentations can be downloaded in both PowerPoint and pdf format to facilitate onscreen reading, printing or group presentation. In addition a set of learning outcomes is recorded on the site that share in more detail some of the key elements of discussions and discoveries during the partnership. The Toolkit is also available on usb key drives.
