PROJECT
FINISHED
Social EVS in Valencia City is a project that has promoted inclusion and equity , European citizenship and youth participation .
The project has been developed in the city of Valencia that is the capital of Region of Valencia. The city has about 1 million inhabitants. It has great historical and natural heritage as the Albufera and the Lonja de la Seda. Important economic sectors are services, followed by industry and agriculture. Based on the objectives of the renewed framework for European cooperation in the youth field (2010-2018) and more specifically the promotion of active citizenship, social inclusion and solidarity, three key points in the activities the foundation DASYC develops in his day to day.
The idea behind this project of EVS was welcoming 4 young people from Italy and FYROM (Macedonia) to know the reality of our region. But finally the project has been approved for 2 volunteers. The 2 volunteers who have hosted since the October 1, 2015 to June 1, 2016 (and since 4/10 to 3/06 in the case of Natasha Petkoska) have been together housed in a shared flat with another girl and have developed social activities in schools, associations and centers where the foundation does its work.
At the same time the volunteers have been an example of European citizenship and there have been two intercultural nights that have been shared gastronomic specialties, music, a bit of culture of European volunteers, staff DASYC, and the girl (Korean but based in Spain) with which the volunteers have shared accommodation. Besides the 2 volunteers they have had contact with other EVS volunteers from other entities and two EVS volunteers who have host from February to July 2016.
We organized weekly and monthly meetings with the supervisor of activities and the mentor, a senior volunteer, expert of DASYC. When the volunteers have wanted, they have been able to request meetings with the project coordinator of EVS. The volunteers have been involved in different formations organized for volunteers and DASYC equipment. They have been very active in arrival training and the mid-term evaluation of the project (organized by ANE-INJUVE), thus ensuring the conformity of our project in the EVS training cycle.
Activities:
- Activities in school: creative workshops for children, puzzle, drawings and paintings, songs and dances, activities in the park and on the terrace. In general, a support for the monitor.
- Support classes in English homework or other subjects.
- Computer classes and general culture for old people.
- Office support: translate documents in English and Spanish, weekly reports, assistance in cooperation projects.
Trainings:
- On-arrival training in CANFRANC
- Mid-term training in Malaga
- Educo training in Madrid
- Emotional intelligence and emotion recognition
- Training for volunteer school support to youth at risk of social exclusion
Volunteer activities were held at DASYC’s headquarters in Valencia and other centers in which the Foundation develops social activities such as school Santiago Apostle in the neighborhood El Cabañal. This, for example, is one of the neighborhoods considered as preferred in the city of Valencia for their socio-economic conditions: poverty rate is the highest in the city: 29'5% when the average of the city is 17 '7%. There are social risk situations such as abuse, consumption and sale of drugs, alcoholism, etc.
We want to highlight the impact on the target population of our actions (in 2015 more than 5100 people). Our beneficiaries of this project have had a new vision of Europe and the world outside their immediate environment. In this sense, the presence of the volunteers there is very important because it is part of the foundation of European integration and citizenship. We believe that, perhaps, the greatest impact of this project has been the development of a true sense of European citizenship in which young volunteers have been the protagonists.
