Social and Economic Re-Integration ; Pathway to Human Dignity and Equality for all
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Apr 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The technological advancement of the last century was nothing compared to the success the EU project which started as European Economic Community in 1958 with six countries which has over the years metamorphosed into European Union of 28 Countries has achieved. This political platform has been accorded the needed recognition around the world. The European Union has been a beacon of peace, justice, equality and economic emancipation. Enemy states are now friends and seats at the same table of development and human emancipation. Free movement of people in Europe has been a tool to drive a more inclusive Europe which was adjudged to be under serious threat. The great achievements of European Union which has and is still encouraging so many countries on the by stand to join the union or aspire to join the union This same admirable uniqueness which has been hailed as the benefit of the European union are today being re-examined within member states borders. The changes experienced in member states as a result of being a member of the EU have created excitements and despair at the same time and political leaders are playing to fears of citizens in some countries both real and imagined threats. We have seen rhetoric’s from national leaders and political figures who has blurred the real political debate about Europe. The training project succeeded in engaging young people at this moment and time in history on the merit and demerits of European Union both as economic and as a social inclusion mechanism. The first wave of integration was largely driven by the need for economic integration without due regard or understanding of what human and cultural integration will mean or look like. Europe has come very far in defeating extreme nationalism, fundamentalism, discrimination and xenophobia but the current economic crises is re-introducing imaginary segregation that is defining people based on their nationality and economic GDP. No European citizen or aspiring European citizens should be allowed to suffer any form of discrimination in the exercise of her freedom and pursuit of happiness as a result of her national economic GDP. It was observed that If this phenomenon’s are not nipped in the bud, it risks the creation of two parallel Europe. European citizens of rich countries with full benefits and privileges and citizen of poor European countries with limited benefits and restrictions and conditions they must meet to access benefits within the Union. It was observed that there are tendencies of reacting to situations and circumstances of frustrations and pressure rather than responding through improved capacities and soft skills that will make them steady under pressure and Increase the crisis and conflict carrying capacities of the participants through new thinking and new approaches to difficulties. The culture shift being witnessed amongst young people in Europe who often react to passing phases of frustration with violence against themselves and migrants from other European countries especially new member states. As part of the set objectives, the project succeeded in training 30 youth workers in transformational skills e.g team building and team leading skills which will enable them to leverage diversity in a multicultural workspace. The youth workers and young people on the project were trained on social entrepreneurship project. They were equally trained on skills for multicultural engagement and dialogue. The project stared the participants away from Xenophobic tendencies and how to combat xenophobic activities. The project trained youth workers and young people on non-violent skills and also trained them on the fundamental principles of creators who takes the advantages of bad situations to create new possibilities. The youth workers and young people were trained on how to promote wellbeing .The training empowered youth workers on how to contribute to policy processes around youth unemployment across Europe. Partner countries were carefully selected, which includes Poland, Norway, Italy Portugal and Spain and U.K, These were countries going through major austerity measures and young people are in constant despair and venting their angers through diverse means at the same time. The diverse nature of countries chosen fed into the training methods and its enrichments. The trainings were conducted through Non-formal experiential approach to learning. Participants were supported to be masters of their own learning. This approaches were combined with participatory methods. Participants took responsibilities and not blame their problems on European integration by acknowledged its benefits and how to respond to attendant challenges. With skills that enables participants to understand how to measure vulnerability and skills that can enhance career prospects for upward social mobility. It became obvious that the argument that their economic problems were as a result of European migration or integration falls on its head.
