SMS: Sports, Membership and Solidarity
Start date: May 3, 2016, End date: Sep 2, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our organisation has a great deal of experience with creating intercultural events for inner city kids and adolescents, where we focus on positive reinforcement through sports and recreational activities. We recognise the importance for especially young people of being part of a community or belong to some form of organisation, where mentors and role models interact with younger people. The project will focus on methods of role modelling, positive reinforcement and inclusion through sports/ recreational activities. The objective of this Key Action 1 project is to provide our young participants with a forum for discussing motivations, feelings and reasons regarding traditions of sports and unity, social norms and ways of recreational activities and interaction in order to find methods that promote social inclusion and integration of e.g. immigrants and refugees through sports. We focus normatively on methods of promoting interaction and individual/group mobilisation and the results will be displayed to a wide audience with focus on both local and global initiatives. Especially a focus on young people of immigrant/ refugee backgrounds has our attention, as studies and our own working experience show that sport is a great ice-breaker and way of inclusion to society.By gathering 50 young people from Greece, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Romania, Lithuania, Turkey and Denmark for a mobility seminar, we wish to offer professional and academic lectures and share knowledge that address personal/social issues and we wish to find methods of promoting social inclusion through sports. The link to the Erasmus+ objectives is obvious, as we see a clear connection between social inclusion through sports and integration, and we know that exercising mind and body together with other people can create solidarity, unity and mobility that can be transmitted to other spheres of lives as well.We imagine that the participants will develop leadership skills, hands-on methods of inclusion and a sense of responsibility that can also help them perform better academically along with fellow students, break into the job market, be more active in socially profitable initiatives regarding integration/ inclusion of other people in local communities and build intercultural relations.
