Small Ship and Boat Designers and Builders Education and Training

The project partners will develop an up-to-date training and learning environment for small ship and boat builders. Information on existing curricula and teaching material will be gathered and assessed with the aim of developing a new modern set of teaching material that can be transferred between different vocational training and higher education institutions. A range of modern teaching techniques will be utilised to impart teaching material, to include, computer-based training, e-learning, on-site training and experience-based learning. At its core, the project will develop two teaching modules: one on small ship/boat ‘designing’ based on advanced computer graphics software and one on small ship/boat ‘building’ based on advanced technologies. The modules will be developed into an initial vocational training curriculum for vocational training and higher education institutions. Alongside these modules, a curriculum will be developed to train existing managers and employees in the small ship/boat building industry. The various course curricula will be piloted in the partner countries and the final versions made available in printed form, on CD-Rom and via the project's interactive homepage. This new teaching material will be reflected in the project's suggestions for new and renewed national standards for small ship/boat designers and builders. The new course curricula will be accompanied by a 'train the trainers' course with its own guidelines and training manual. A common database will be developed containing information about the project and its results and will be made available in a variety of formats as well as through the project homepage. Dissemination of the project results will take place at the level of the project partners, nationally and internationally and will address the public sector, the education sector and targeted SMEs.
