PROJECT
FINISHED
In the project there will participate 18 tourism and gastronomy students aged 17-19. The project involves one-month practical training in hotels and restaurants in Ubeda, Andalucia. The students, according to the guidelines, will be accompanied by 4 teachers chosen by the head master ( 2 teachers for the first two weeks of the training, the other 2 for the second 2 weeks).
The main objective of the project is providing students with the opportunity of putting theoretical knowledge gained in the course of study into practical skills and competences in the context of European market. Furthermore, the project aims at identifying new tendencies in tourism development such as cultural, educational and tourism connected with Culinary Arts, especially oleotourism. The project connects tourism with Spanish cuisine.
The detailed aims of the project involve enabling students to gain skills and competences as for complex guest services; promoting the local product- olive oil; using professional materials such as leaflets, guides, menu card, culinary books; giving information about the hotel and restaurant; getting fluency in professional English and Spanish and developing social skills.
The project involves creating a Facebook fun page with all the up-to-date information about the practical training and excursions.
The program of the practical training connected with new tendencies in tourism and elements of ECVET system complies with the need of organizing studies in this way so that it incorporates the requirement of the possible employers.
Basing on the interviews with the local and regional employers as well as school research, we have noticed a wide variety of needs that we would like to fulfill through this project. The main need is getting a balance between theoretical and practical knowledge of our students. For the time being, theory greatly predominates practical competences. Students lack familiarity with the work culture, self-confidence, logical and consistent use of theory. Moreover, our students are not determined, success-oriented and highly motivated to learning languages.
The students need to be competitive on the job market so they must have substantial practice, language skills, self-confidence and motivation. These are key qualities now, since there is a high unemployment among young people in Poland. What is more, our students have often very poor social background and family support. Many students do not have any passions or hobbies. For most of them, this practical training will be the first, perhaps, the only opportunity of getting experience abroad. Actually, for most of them it will be the first journey abroad.
We expect the following results: increasing the chances of being employed in the future, overcoming language barriers, learning about new tendencies in tourism, getting self-confidence, maturity and responsibility, interesting students in Spanish language and culture.
Practical training will take place in the following: Hotel Alvaro Torres, Hotel Fuentenueva, Artificis, Semer Turismo, Restaurant Condestable.
