The purpose of the project “Puzzle - Youth competences for the European future” (“Slagalica - Kompetencije mladih za europsku budućnost”) is to help young people, especially young people with fewer opportunities, to - with support of leaders, using informal methods through practical and fun activities - strengthen and develop their competences, recognize ways of acquiring knowledge and skills most suitable for them, to recognize or learn about the activities and areas that match their interests, and thus easier recognize their abilities and interests for enhancing their knowledge and skills, as well as eventual venues for their further education, employment or self-employment.
Through the youth exchange of between Croatia and Macedonia (FYROM) on the Adriatic island of Prvić near Sibenik, 39 young people (including young people with fewer opportunities and young people with disabilities) lived together in a camp in tents, and - in smaller international and larger groups, jointly and individually - worked on discovering their talents and building their abilities.
Getting to know the European Union, its values and concepts of citizenship, mobility, qualifications framework and recognition of skills and achievements, lifelong learning ... are also among the goals of this project, and through multi-lingual learning of songs, presentations of participating countries and exploring the local heritage, old crafts and customs, as well as communication with local residents, but also visitors and foreigners, the young participants developed competences in culture, tolerance, social skills, and motivation for acquiring and further learning or foreign languages.
Strengthening competencies, thinking "of the box", formal and informal, Youthpass, Europass, "learning by doing", multiculturalism, foreign languages, self-confidence - are some of the key concepts of this project whose name speaks of its goal: to help young people in putting together a puzzle of competences for their European future.
The project also included a Seminar for leaders from the two participating countries, geared to enhance the quality of youth work, inclusion of young people with dissabilities and successful implementation of activities through customized nonformal methods and informal learning.
For the young participants, leaders and partner organizations, the project brought new experiences and various incentives for their continued engagement in developing and advancing the European future for youth.
The project also influenced local communities in which the activities took place by raising awareness about the usefulness of participation, organizing and engaging in international activities, strengthened the resources of partner organizations for creation of projects, youth work and participation in EU programs on the national level, as well as contributed to regional networking of organizations and individuals, and also upon its completion continues to contribute through sharing of experiences, methods and results of the project.
The project also contributed to the recognition of EU programs and their benefits for all stakeholders at different levels, to the acceptance and understanding of multiculturalism, multilingualism, different learning styles and the importance of recognition and acknowledgement of knowledge and skills acquired through nonformal and informal learning for young people and youth workers, and continues to motivate wider community towards participating and contributing to development of the European future in the participating countries, through initiating new partnership activities of young people from the participating organizations.
The Project was implemented by Izviđačka družba from Zagreb, Croatia and Scout group Krste Jon from Struga, Macedonia (FYROM), between 01.03.2015. and 01.02.2016.
