As engineering industry develops, absorption of new technologies and methods accelerates, social environment changes, more and more higher requirements are raised for vocational teachers. Vocational teachers should be able not only to plan their activity very accurately, know how to choose proper measures of knowledge conveyance, communicate and evaluate, but also to acquire strategical (subject – technological) competencies corresponding to the achievements of science, technologies and advanced practice and at the same time to anticipate vocational training to the needs of the labour martket. Vocational teacher should be able to use new technological equipment and technologies in order to help students to achieve high vocational standards. It is obvious that quickly changeable labour market requires from vocational training institutions for constant renewal, flexibility and openness that they would be able to satisfy not only regional or national labour market, but also international labour world requirements, i.e. that would be able to train qualified and competitive labour market specialists who are able to work with the newest modern equipment and knowing how to serve it. It is obvious that vocational skills and general competencies are more successfully communicated and demonstrated by that vocational teacher who is learning and improving constantly, looking for new teaching methods and integrates them into vocational training. Project „Contemporary teacher motto: „Personal professional development!“ seeks for favourable conditions for teachers of engineering industry specialities to improve their professional skills and competencies. Duration of project implementation is 12 months. 4 sending partners from Lithuania – Alytus vocational training centre, Kaunas mechanic school, Vilnius automechanic and business school, Vilnius railway transport and business services school – are participating in the project. 20 vocational teachers going to visits abroad are working according to welder (2 teachers), electric equipment electromechanic (1 teacher), car body repairer (3 teachers), car electromechanic (8 teachers), computer and office equipment operator (5 teachers), international transport commercial freight vehicles driver's (1 teacher) training programmes. Duration of visists – 1 week, because this period of time is sufficient and necessary to satisfy the needs of participants and to implement the aims of the project. Main aims of the project: - to create opportunities for vocational teachers to get acquainted with teaching methods used in foreign countries educational institutions, to improve professional competencies, to try new teaching/learning methods and new technological equipment creatively, take the best education practices over and apply them into their educational institutions; - to give to each vocational teacher a possibility to evaluate their professional activity newly, what things should be improved in his/her activity, what knowledge, competencies and skills he/she lacks and what is necessary to take into consideration wehn planning professional development. - To create an opportunity for vocational teachers to develop their personal initiative, to improve their qualification when sharing good practice experience with Lithuanian and foreign countries colleagues. When implementing the aims of the project, it is intended to create a specific product – portfolio of vocational training process improvement where would be particular proposals ragarding new training subjects, new technologies or introduction of training modules, discussed issues of improvement of producation practice organization in order to train qualified specialists of engineering industry and at the maximum anticipate vocational training to the changes of the labour market . Project will be implemented during 2014 – 2015. Project participants will visit vocational training institutions and business companies in Austria, France, Czech Republic, Germany and Italy. During the internship, project participants will get acquainted with technics and equipment used in host countries vocational schools and companies as well as with working culture, host country history, culture, traditions, develop linguistic competencies and professional motivation. The results of the project will be disseminated among Lithuanian vocational schools, Alytus, Kaunas and Vilnius cities and districts educational institutions, communities, the communities of all organizations participating in this project.
