SHAPERS project gathers five partners from the Euro-Mediterranean civil society (France, Morocco, Spain, Bosnia, Egypt) all committed at local level to developing dance in public spaces.Dancing in public spaces carries strong potential for local development, social change and collective emancipation, as it questions the body as a mean of expression and its presence in public spheres. This has a particular meaning in the southern Mediterranean countries where strong political tensions threaten freedom of expression and echo some issues in Northern and Eastern Europe societies undergoing crisis. The main objective of this project is to develop and structure the emerging young contemporary dance scene in the Euro-Mediterranean region, while responding to an ideal of cultural democracy by reaching a diverse range of audiences including people who are remote to artistic practices.SHAPERS places the creation process as a starting point and backbone for passing on knowledge, know-how and self-management skills to eight young dancers from the partner countries, as well as to the stakeholders in the dance scene (cultural operators, producers, institutions, audiences) from May 2016 to September 2018.On tour performances carried out by an intercultural artistic team in the Mediterranean region and Europe, will create work opportunities for the participants. It will also implement a series of actions involving the various stakeholders of the dance scene, in order to reinforce their skills and to mobilize new audiences. This project is directly in line with the priorities of the European cultural Agenda concerning the mobility of artists and workers of the cultural field and of artistic productions developed in the public space, as well as in terms of reinforcing intercultural skills and intercultural dialogue, and access for countries from the South to international markets.
