PROJECT
FINISHED
Fundacja Ogród Ceramiki (eng. The Garden of Ceramics Foundation) was established as a consequence of our genuine passion to ceramics. The main subject of our interest is the realization of projects such as the ceramic installations in public space, the use of ceramics in sensory integration therapy and the promotion of ceramics among young artists.
The activities of the proposed project was divided into three thematic task groups: (1) development of ceramic therapeutic aids, (2) promotion of ceramics with an emphasis on international aspects, (3) support of the foundation in the course of its ongoing activities.
In particular, the volunteer performed the following activities:
- assistance in the preparation of therapeutic aids for children and youths with different types of intellectual disability,
- the making of volunteer’s own projects of the therapeutic aids,
- preparation of materials, workstations for workshop participants,
- support of workshop participants in the ceramic process,
- assistance at the installation of outdoor installations,
- participating in alternative techniques of firing ceramics,
- preparing multimedia presentations on ceramics and ceramic techniques used in the volunteer’s country of origin ,
- running multimedia presentations in ceramic studio for the local community, students of Warsaw fine arts faculties and all other people that are interested in ceramics.
The project 'Sensory Garden of Ceramics' involved the participation of one volunteer. Volunteer applied to our organization on his own with the wish to participate in the project. It was the young man, who at the begining of the project has just graduated of the Sculpture Faculty. He developed interest in ceramics by the end of his studies. In the EVS project created by our Foundation he has seen for himself a great opportunity to combine his artistic interests with the possibility to help others.
Volunteer participating in the project had the opportunity to learn about the needs of people with intellectual disabilities (mainly with Down syndrome and autism), various aspects of the ceramic process, as well as ceramic achievements of his country of origin. Moreover, the volunteer had the opportunity to gain knowledge about Polish culture and customs. The volunteer learned through: observation, action and meetings with the mentor.
An important skill that the volunteer developed through project organized by our foundation was the ability to organize and conduct workshops/events for a few/over a dozen people (including people with intellectual disabilities).
Ceramic therapeutic aids prepared with the assistance of the volunteer (i.e. musical instruments, objects stimulating the sense of touch, simple board games) were used during classes (including the use of method of sensory integration) in one of the special-needs school located in Żoliborz district.
Presentations, photos and videos reporting the progress of the project were posted on the Garden of Ceramics Foundation's webpage, Facebook page and the YouTube channel, which will make at least the part of the EVS project available to people around the world.
