Senior Volunteers for Common Europe

The project was organized by two institutions: Danish Fritidsborger.dk (local association) in Asnæs and Polish Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej (Social Service Center) in Mieroszow. Both organizations have experience with senior volunteering at the national level, by this project we gave the senior volunteers a possibility to perform volunteering abroad. We also exchanged our experience and good practices (especially about senior volunteering within cultural heritage and social inclusion). During the project each organization hosted 4 volunteers, in summer 2013. In Poland 2 Danish volunteers assisted in children and youths club and organized different activities there, 2 more together with Polish volunteers helped to renovate tourist shelters and created a brochure about cultural heritage in the region. In Denmark 2 volunteers helped Danish volunteers to organize annual harvest market , 2 more helped organizing activities for the harvest market in cooperation with open-air cultural heritage museum. The volunteers benefited from the project by learning new skills, personal development and new friendships. The organizations benefited by exchanging experience. And last, but not least, the local communities benefited by receiving support from volunteers and by improved motivation for future volunteering.
