Background/Context: During the exchange we will cover different themes that centre around the "Scouting 360°" project. These themes will inspire the participants to broaden their view on scouting. On the one hand, your membership to a local scouting troop means you are completely accustomed to the traditions of your own group, but that you hardly come in to contact with other scout movements. By organising this international project, every participant actively comes into contact with other scouts causing their perspective on scouting to widen. On the other hand, scouting has an implicit impact on the 17-18 year olds, and societal events influence scouting. These factors have a noticeable effect, but this might be ignored. During this project we reflect on this causing the participants to become more aware of these effects on their lives. Participants: The participating groups from Macedonia (17 participants) and Belgium (15 participants) are both scout troops. The choice to come into contact with a local scout troop was a conscious one: because we have something in common (engagement for/in scouting) we share largely the same mind-set. More specifically, the participants — aged 17 and 18 — are future scout leaders that will contribute to the education and formation of children and youths. The insights and competences that were gained during this youth exchange will therefore be of great value for their later career in scouting. Objectives: Because this project is set up in an international — and therefore intercultural — way our participants will develop a wider view on the how and why of scouting. Dialogue between the conflicting views on scouting will encourage them to break free from rusted thought processes that are inherent to their troop. The gained insights and competences during the project will contribute to the upbringing op the participants to more aware scout leaders. These insights and competences are: • Insight in their own engagement in scouting (Is it purely an exhaust vent during gatherings, or is it a way of life?) and it's influence on their own life. • Getting to know scouting/youth work in a different context (Belgium - Macedonia) • Insight in the different societal influences on scouting • Engaging in active conversation with youths from a different country and culture, and thereby also becoming more fluent in English communication. • Grading their own learning progress by means of the YouthPass Long-term results: On the one hand, we hope this project can result in long-term contacts between the two partner organisations and that it can be a basis for eventual exchanges/partnerships in the future. On the other hand, this project has a large long-term impact on the individual participants and their collective troops. The experiences that are gained will be passed on to an entire generation of scouts, because the participants will be active als scout leaders in their own troops in the near future. The experiences have an influence on life outside the scouts as well, as the participants will live their lives with broader minds.
