This partnership between schools aims at combining several of the GOALS of UNESCO with the need for the EUROPEAN UNION to improve the INTEREST OF YOUTH IN SCIENTIFIC VOCATIONS and make them aware of global health challenges like Infectious diseases and vaccination, Global nutrition , Water and Genetic modification. This partnership aims to achieve this through RESEARCH. Students are handed LARGE GLOBAL CHALLENGES in which they can choose their own specific field of RESEARCH. By cooperating with students from other countries they are able to COMPARE PERSPECTIVES and SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE AND COLLABORATE ON THIS RESEARCH. Hence this project is called SCIENTIFIC INNOVATION AND RESEARCH OF GLOBAL HEALTH CHALLENGES. This project is aimed at - Increasing THE NUMBER OF SCIENTIFIC VOCATIONS AND INTEREST IN SCIENCE, RESEARCH among the students involved in the project. - Making students AWARE OF CONTEMPORARY GLOBAL ISSUES AND CHALLENGES according to the UNESCO 21st century education goal. - Increasing the EXCELLENCE OF THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH skills of the students and of the projects in the school - Spreading GOOD PRACTICES among the schools in RESEARCH SKILLS - Sharing NATIONAL PERSPECTIVES ON GLOBAL ISSUES AND EXPERTISE to compare with each other and the EUROPEAN and GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE. - Improving the LANGUAGE COMPETENCE of the students involved in the project. - Increasing THE KNOWLEDGE of the involved TEACHERS of the educational good practices of other European countries by sharing expertise and co-assessing students websites and presentations. Three school take part in this project: Lorentz Lyceum, ( Arnhem, The Netherlands), Gladsaxe Gymnasium ( Copenhagen, Denmark) and Gymnazium Jana Papanka ( Bratislava, Slovakia). All three schools share in their mission-vision a broad perspective on internationalisation and have all three a great experience in innovation, research and collaboration projects. All three schools are UNESCO-SCHOOLS , and incorporate the goals of UNESCO in their education. In this project students carry out their research first through an electronic learning environment in 12 groups per year which each consists of 6 students , 2 from each country. This phase takes about 3 months and has a website about the research as a product. The best 8 researches ( 48 students) per year meet in life, continue the research and present the results in 3 seminars, one per year. To perform their research students will also have to get in contact with EUROPEAN EXPERTS AND ORGANISATIONS on these GLOBAL HEALTH CHALLENGES like universities, the WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION, DOCTERS WITHOUT BORDERS, UNESCO, and the EUROPEAN UNION itself. The 48 students have to present their research to a general audience in English, one of the official languages of the European Union, so they IMPROVE THEIR LANGUAGE COMPETENCE, their ABILITY TO EXPLAIN A SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE and their COMMUNICATION AND PRESENTATION SKILLS. Within an INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENT the students will complete their research and learn about INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION while staying in a host family. For each school the project is integrated in the CURRICULUM and is therefore supported by SCIENTIFIC TEACHERS AND LESSONS. In the schools the students will have to perform a FINAL RESEARCH at the end of their study to be able to proceed to UNIVERSITY. This project will help them develop the necessary skills to be able to do so successfully. Teachers will cooperate to achieve a JOINED ASSESSMENT of the research by the teachers of the three countries before and during the exchange. In this way teachers can learn from each other’s assessment criteria. Each school will host one of the seminars. Each seminar will include diffusion activities, where the students will get to know the actual research in this field carried out in the countries. Furthermore, the participant schools will program during these seminars other activities to increase their interest in science , such as MASTERCLASSES, LECTURES, VISIT OF RESEARCH INSTITUTES etc. These activities will be organised with external institutes such as , UNESCO, Doctors without Borders, Radboud University, University of Wageningen, University of Copenhagen, the Comenius university of Bratislava, etc. These expert groups will also take notice of the research of the students. The results or outcomes of the project, such as scientific reports, websites, assessment reports, articles will be shown on the website of the project and will be presented in the three seminars. Also results will be disseminated on other symposia, like MUN'S. Finally, when the project comes to its end, the applicant schools will continue collaborating Furthermore, this future collaboration also allow the MAINTENANCE OF THE WEBPAGE OF THE PROJECT and let the schools SHARE GOOD PRACTICES in several fields, such as BILINGUALISM and RESEARCH, INNOVATION ans EXCELLENCY.
