The objective of the project was to boost innovation activity and to speed up the growth and development of technological and service enterprises, to increase cooperation between enterprises and universities and to improve interregional cooperation through the establishment of joint R&D units in the cross-border area, and to produce an integral conceptual plan and uniform strategy for the establishment of an appropriate environment - the science park in Maribor and Osijek. An additional objective was to prepare a strategy of disseminating the results of this project to other cross-border areas and encourage the creation of science parks there as well. Achievements: The framework of the project defined a common methodology for producing a comprehensive business plan; a vision has been determined and a study of eligibility has been made; 20 key enterprises for the establishment of joint R&D units have been identified; the overall urban planning and architectural concept including landscape design has been elaborated; the common methodology to identify common R&D units and achieve a critical mass of enterprises has been defined; 8 key subject areas for the establishment of joint R&D units have been identified; a detailed design of a joint R&D unit has been made; a uniform strategy for the establishment of a science park in Maribor and Osijek has been elaborated; a uniform strategy for other cross-border environments has been adapted; the plan for joint action in other cross-border areas has been elaborated, and a web site has been set up.
