Šance pro naši malotřídní školu - vyučování v angličtině a projektová spolupráce se školami v EU
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

A Chance for Our Small SchoolThe project results from the following reasons: We are striving to improve our teaching of English through the CLIL method and through more intensive engagement in international projects. At the same time, we realise the necessity to enhance polytechnic education at our school so that our pupils receive versatile education which will help them find ways of self-fulfilment by addressing their diverse dispositions. We have drawn inspiration both in our country and abroad. We have found the Finnish educational system to be closest to our hearts. All of these areas merge in our eTwinning project entitled Our Ancestors' Lives - Hands-on Experience. This project focuses on gaining practical experience of traditional crafts and trades from different parts of Europe. But it will also enable children to meet new friends from different backgrounds and to communicate in English. We are the authors and coordinators of this project on eTwinning and we are currently seeking to form a strategic partnership of schools from the EU. However, our staff's linguistic competences and skills, which are improving only slowly, and a lack of experience of managing projects of larger scales pose the main obstacles to our efforts. That is why we have zeroed in on (given our current needs) two essential activities: a course in the English language (at the level specified above and complying with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and a course in project management and project cooperation with a European dimension. We have selected two teachers who will attend the language course. They are currently introducing the CLIL method in their arts, PE and crafts lessons. They are also expanding their knowledge and skills in the area of polytechnic education. At present, they are engaged in self-study of English and are taking an e-learning course on our school's LMS. We have chosen one teacher to attend the project management course. He has proven his capacity to play an active role in international projects. He carries out activities ranging from minor ones such as pupils' meetings with their peers from foreign countries via Skype in the Classroom up to more comprehensive projects on eTwinning. He is also the coordinator of the aforementioned Our Ancestors' Lives - Hands-on Experience project. He intends to continue playing this role in the future. The key benefits for our school will include our staff's better language skills, improved employment of the CLIL method in our lessons and a chance for the staff to get involved in international and European projects more intensively. In addition, the teacher who is supposed to take the project management course will benefit from this activity immensely, since he will acquire knowledge and skills necessary for the management and coordination of larger-scale European projects. This is essential as we intend to participate in projects under Erasmus plus and other projects with a European dimension. From the long-term perspective, we expect to make a progress in our project activities and enable our pupils to enjoy contact with their peers from different parts of Europe. These activities will present an opportunity for informal learning, acquisition of new skills and competences and experiencing the sheer joy of creation and making new products.
