PROJECT
FINISHED
This is a youth exchange between Iceland and France. For the last 10 years we have worked together with this organization in France, in Les Sables d'Olonne and this is the 6th time we participate. The Icelandic group will go to France on the 18th of march and stay for 6 days, but the French group will come to Iceland in October this year. Th group consists of 47 youngsters and 5 group leaders; 3 French and 2 Icelandic. The project is to improve the use of information technology with young people. They will study their use of the internet on sites like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram and Spotify. We will examine the impact the use of this technology has on young people, both physically and mentally, how this affects their wellbeing and influence them to look at what is good and what is not so good. We will introduce to them reliable sources of information and open educational resources both for informal and formal education. We will also work with how people communicate on the internet and look at some comments people leave on various social medias. The youngsters will learn how to use their phones as a GPS and learn to get from one place to another by using maps, such as Google maps.
We will visit a theme park that has all kinds of virtual reality themes, 2, 3, and 4 D. They will have to choose a theme and work on that theme with the use of the internet. The methods we will use are amongst others role play and orienteering games. We will use the internet a lot, where they will have to find some information and create footages and images along with text that they will upload on the web. We hope that this will improve their use of information technology and increase their awareness of their own behavior. We will also compare between countries how the youngsters differ in their use of this technology. The aim is that one group learns from the other and vice versa.
The life circle of the project starts now, implementation will be from the 19th - 24th of March 2015 and follow up in May 2015.
We do hope that this will improve how young people use the internet and they will influence other young people and their environment.
