S1-L14 Erasmus Mundus Action 2 for South Africa II
S1-L14 Erasmus Mundus Action 2 for South Africa II
Start date: Jul 15, 2011,
The Erasmus Mundus Partnership programme aims at mutual enrichment and better understanding between the European Union and Third-Countries. It is designed to foster
institutional cooperation in the field of higher education between the European Union and Third-Countries through a mobility scheme addressing student and staff exchanges for the purpose of studying, teaching, training and research.
Seven European and five South African Universities have joined forces in this strong academic EMA2 network called ema2sa II (Erasmus Mundus Action 2 for South Africa) to reinforce the existing contacts between South African and European universities through intensified student and staff mobility. At the same time, the project will offer opportunities to young people for functioning in a globalized environment, learning about other cultures and languages, thus preparing them for the challenges of the Global Knowledge Society.
The main project objective is to create a sustainable exchange programme between the two regions that involve Master’s and doctoral students from target groups 1 and 2, and staff from Target Group 1, making sure that both target groups are given equal opportunities to participate in the programme.
The ema2sa II partnership will send out 51 participants from South Africa to Europe. The grantees will be members of the international network of EMA2 participants; they will benefit from their periods abroad as international students or scholars, and they will be able to use their international experience in their future lives as professionals or leaders.
Ultimately, the ema2sa scheme will contribute to the creation, both within and outside universities in South Africa and Europe, of a strong network of professionals, who will have gained first-hand knowledge of each other’s educational systems and societies and who can foster the mutual understanding and cooperation between all partners involved and their environment. Brief description:
The ema2sa consortium (Erasmus Mundus Action 2 for South Africa) aims at building strong multilateral and multidisciplinary relationships between universities in South Africa and Europe. Its EMA2 project connects higher education institutions in Europe and South Africa, providing them with a guarantee for collaboration and exchange, leading to a broad mutual understanding. By exchanging Master’s and doctoral students as well as academic staff, and by offering academic seminars on the organisational aspects of internationalisation, this academic mobility network will enhance sustainable partnerships and synergies in the educational systems of both regions. There is a special focus on the academic fields of Agricultural Sciences, Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning, Business Studies & Management Sciences, Education & Teacher training, Engineering & Technology, Geography & Geology, Mathematics & Informatics, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Human Rights, Communication & Information Sciences and Sustainability Issues and, as far as the dissemination seminars and workshops are concerned, on the organisational aspects of internationalisation in higher education.
