S1-L04-JOSYLEEN-Linking HE and Research Institutions in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Europe
Start date: Jul 15, 2010,

Two main factors that gave the original thrust to the project were 1) the dedication of Lund University (LU) to developing the cooperation with Middle Eastern universities as laid down in LU's strategic plan, and 2) previous fruitful experiences of long-term cooperation with the European universities and with several universities in the targeted countries. Both European and lot country partners embraced the idea of a systemic and institution-based approach to mobility at all levels as a means of achieving improved understanding and compatibility between HE systems.Throughout the first three years of the Erasmus Mundus Partnership, the partnership has jointly designed and executed a mobility scheme that promotes the establishment of more systematic, transparent and effective approach for collaboration in education and research. Now that the start-up hurdles of the programme have been mostly overcome, we believe our project is about to its full potential as not merely a scholarship programme but a full-scale network cooperation at all levels reaching also beyond the scholarships offered. Our intentions is to further strengthen our relations and developing new areas of cooperation in matching research as well as continuous actions for transparency and comparability between the different HE systems under EM Action 2.Three new active European partners will put an added value to the project. But with continued cooperation with the same 9 universities from Jordan, Syria and Lebanon it secures the project for a sustainable development in the area of mobility. Partner universities will also work more closely with TG 2 universities to bring them into the idea of the program and to further involve them in the "Bologna process" as well. All partners have a very high operational and academic capacity and commitment to the project and its objectives. The close cooperation with the Centre for Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University will secure the good relations in the lot countries for a sustainable development in a national and international environment for all partners involved.
