PROJECT
FINISHED
? Context
Since 2010, CIDJ has been accompanying and coordinating host projects in all Youth Information Centres in the Paris Region (Ile-de-France). Every year since 2010, CIDJ renewed this host voluntary project with BIJ Vélizy-Villacoublay and PIJ Aubervillliers. This project took place in the framework of a regular and successful partnership.
? Objectives
This common project aimed at:
- Reinforcing participation by communication with the young public of the Youth Information Centres, especially regarding international and European mobility, EU citizenship and cultural diversity.
- Encouraging volunteering in the sports sector by taking part in the organisation of big sports competitions.
? Participants
As part of this project, two Polish volunteers were hosted in Youth Information Centres, in theParis region: Dzemila Smajkiewicz volunteered at BIJ Vélizy-Villacoublay from 1/10/2014 to 30/06/2015 (9 months) whereas Klaudia Cedro volunteered at PIJ Aubervilliers from 7/01/2015 to 1/07/2015 (6 months), after several withdrawals.
? Activities
During their project, both volunteers:
- Informed young people on the topics covered by Youth Information network: studies, training, job, mobility, the sports, health, accommodation, etc.
- Informed and promoted young people about European mobility programmes, including EVS.
- Lead English conservation workshops for secondary, high-school and university students.
- Took part in events co-organised by the BIJ/PIJ and the city: Summer Job Forum, European Forum and Science Festival.
- Created communication tools (video, pictures, articles, flyers, posters?) to promote their host organisation and activities at local level and on the Internet (website and social networks).
- Testified about their experience by raising awareness on European citizenship among young people during events organised by their organisations.
- Developped their personal project: creation, organisation and leading of an ?EVS Café in Paris?.
Dzemila and Klaudia brought their dynamism and shared their experiences during several actions on a local, national and European scale and particularly through the creation of the ?EVS Café in Paris?. This Café brings together many European volunteers and offers them to participate in cultural activities in or around Paris.
As part of the European Youth Week 2015, the French Agency Erasmus+ Youth supported an initiative led by those volunteers called ?EVS Coffee in France network ? InVOLve in action?. As a result, from 28th April to 9th May 2015, a dozen of EVS volunteers hosted in the Paris Region and Haute-Normandie travelled in France and met with other Youth Information organisations, EVS volunteers and young people in Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Nantes. Volunteers strongly believe in peer education and carry out actions which aim to promote the EVS and European mobility among young people.
? Results
Intercultural impact: Not only did the volunteers shared about the Polish culture and improved their knowledge of French culture but they also learnt to appreciate other cultures. This helped them to detach themselves from their own culture and to shed a new light on Europe. This host project benefited the volunteers and the people they met: the young public, partners, employees, local population, etc. They also arouse the interest of many people in their place of residence and associations they visited.
European dimension: This project consisted in highlighting and encouraging the participation of young people in society and the information on their joint concerns in order to have a better understanding of youth expectations in the current context of Europe. It also reinforced the sense of European citizenship of our volunteers and of the public through their testimonies, discussions, debates, animations, etc.
Life-changing experience: Every volunteer benefited from living a unique experience in a foreign country, improved her linguistic, cultural and society knowledge. They took part in the host organisation's activities and developed non-formal skills which may be useful for them in their professional life. Both of them were enhanced as "European volunteer" among future volunteers wishing to know more about the EVS programme. Dzemila and Klaudia benefited from their experience to make life-changing encounters, to flourish and to freely interact in a mutually beneficial manner. Finally, the ?EVS Café in Paris? allowed young people to meet, share some friendly and informal time, network and create common projects. Dzemila, Klaudia and the other volunteers involved in this ?EVS Café in Paris? truly hope that future European volunteers hosted in the Paris Region will ensure continuity of their volunteers' network.
