PROJECT
FINISHED
The Italian sending organization Consorzio Solidarietà Sociale sent two volunteers to the Nizhniy Novgorod Regional Children's Library in Russia for a period of 10 and 6 months. This Library is one of the biggest in the area for number of books and is very much visited by local people. Selected participants were two young women that showed great interest for Russia and its culture.
The project was an EVS activity involving work with children and youth within the Library but also in schools and orphanages. The general aim of activity was to develop the interest of Russian children and youth in foreign languages, literature and culture.
The volunteers from Italy, Alessandra e Bianca, were involved in activities connected with languages, literature and culture of various countries - mainly England, Germany, Italy, Portugal and France, but also Asia and Africa - which are additional activities for children. Moreover, supported by the staff, the volunteers were able to organize competitions, workshops, events with visitors of the Library and pupils in schools.
Besides, the volunteers had the opportunity to participate in a geography club based in the Library where different themes are discussed and which involve Russian volunteers as well.
Methodology used to implement the project was that of active participation, learning by doing and problem-based learning through which the volunteers were offered an excellent experience and gained new competences and skills which can be applied to a future job as well.
