The project “Development of key competences of teachers working for Specjalny Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy in Złotoryja in the European dimension” within the Erasmus+ Programme, Mobility projects for staff in school education, was prepared in response to needs of our institution, perceived and described in the European School Development Plan. Specific difficulties which our pupils encounter force us to look for new innovative work methods. As teachers, we want to improve our skills of working with children of special educational needs taking advantage of European experience.The main project’s aim is to improve professional competences of staff in school education regarding the following:- development of creativity and innovation of teachers;- increasing quality of individual educational-therapeutic, revalidation and training programmes;- strengthening integration of of pupils who are intellectually disabled with their peers from mass schools and their local community and breaking barriers and stereotypes regarding children of special needs;- tightening bonds with our pupils’ parents and improving their training competences;- creating children’s and young people’s skills to cope with emotions, reducing stress levels and development of concentration, attention and memory;- increasing engagement of teachers in European mobility programmes;- development of multicultural awareness. The project will take place in the period from 1.06.2016 to 31.05.2017 through participation of 10 staff members in courses. The trips will be in two periods: 19-23.09.2016 a trip to Seville (Spain) for a 5-day course “All Children are Special” and 13-17.02.2017 (during winter holidays) a trip to Seville for a 5-day course “Mindfulness: cultivating awareness”. 5 teachers speaking English, having experience in working with children of special needs and teaching on various educational stages will participate in each training. While preparing to the programme, the educational staff will improve their language competences through participation in English language training and self-education. After coming back to Poland, training participants will implement acquired skills and knowledge through meetings, trainings, presentations, demonstration lessons for teachers from our school and teachers from mass schools, pupils from our school and pupils from mass schools, parents of children having special educational needs. Additionally, some other forms of communication will be used to popularize the project results: website, announcements in local media. The result of our staff’s participation in the mobility projects will be fulfilling needs of Specjalny Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczyin Złotoryja related to increasing quality of the organisation work and international cooperation. Acquired knowledge and skills will result in increase of professional competence of the educational staff, enrichened by experiences of European countries. It will cause modernization of our documentation and more effective cooperation with parents and integration of pupils with peers from mass schools and the local community. New and innovative methods learnt during the courses enable: development of creativity and innovation; increasing quality of individual educational-therapeutic, revalidation and training programmes; increase of pupils’ motivation to learn; creating children’s and young people’s skills to cope with emotions, reducing stress levels and development of concentration, attention and memory; tightening bonds with our pupils’ parents and improving their training competences. Acquired skills will also help in better functioning of our pupils who are intellectually disabled both individually and in society. Acquired and implemented skills will influence attitudes and behaviours of both children of special educational needs and their peers from mass schools. It will help in breaking barriers and stereotypes regarding children of special needs. Participation in the project will allow acquiring knowledge about various educational systems in Europe, exchange of experiences with teachers from different European countries and making new international contacts. These activities will result in increasing engagement of teachers in European mobility programmes and will bring longlasting advantages.Participation of our staff in the project will influence development of key competences of teachers in the European dimension. It will strengthen our school’s image as an open institution, friendly for pupils, modern and international.
