Rozvoj jazykových dovedností a metodických postupů ve vyučování
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our main aim is to make primary school Mníšek pod Brdy a centre of a high level of education and certain standards of behaviour. For this reason, we have decided to support its profiling, particularly in the field of language education. Our goal is for every student to be able to use two foreign languages. That is why we have introduced the teaching of English language from the 1st grade, we have strengthened conversational lessons in English at the 2nd school level and in the 7th year we have introduced a compulsory second language. To be able to fulfil the intent of the school, we need good teachers of foreign languages. That is why we have decided to participate in the project Erasmus+, which allowed our teachers to attend language and methodology courses abroad. Participation in international courses is consistent with the concept of our school plan for further education of teachers. The aim of the project was to acquire new skills (particularly in the field of communication), an overview of current teaching methods and familiarization with cultural and social differences between nations in Europe. Language and methodology courses were attended by seven teachers. They are language teachers and 1st school level teachers, who also teach foreign languages at the 1st level. Language teachers attended courses in methodology, where they got information on current teaching methods and practices, and tried them practically. The 1st level teachers attended language courses where they have acquired new language skills and improved their communication skills. Furthermore teachers became familiar with the cultural, social and everyday aspect of life in the United Kingdom and Spain. After finishing the courses, teachers received a certificate and assessment of their progress in the courses. They also evaluated their progress by Europass: Language Passport. Participation in the courses helped teachers to improve their language skills, especially in the field of communication, which has also provided them with a greater confidence in their usage of a foreign language. In addition, taking part in courses encouraged teachers to participate in international projects. Participation in methodological courses enabled teachers to get an overview of current teaching methods, but also motivated them to start working on self-improvement through participation in further education. Applying of new knowledge helped to improve the teaching of foreign languages and motivate students for their learning. Furthermore, we have used the results of participation in the courses to adjust the curriculum in English and Spanish languages, and we have decided to offer pupils more seminars in foreign languages. Familiarization with cultural and social differences between nations and their awareness helped teachers to lead pupils towards tolerance and respect for other nations in the European Union. We see long-term benefits of activities in the intent to have qualified foreign language teachers who create a stimulating environment and motivate students to teach foreign languages. In addition, the project and its results were presented to the public in the form of presentations and workshop, information on school website and the local media, which led to the promotion of the school, and the European projects, but also brought greater public awareness about the activities of the school and managed to spread the good name of a school.
