Roma Integration in Europe

The partnership project assumed creation of concepts and practical solutions which could help build positive relations between Roma ethnic minority and majority communities in European countries. The Roma minority, connected withEurope territory for over 500 years, is still experiencing discrimination acts, and knowledge of its history, origins, values and everyday life is marginal, superficial and full of prejudice. The recognition of life situation of Roma and Sinti in local communities of our partners and in Poland (Łódź and the neighbouring areas), as well as absorption of essential knowledge, which would allow a more effective than ever intercultural dialogue leading to a better communication and social interaction, were one of the goals of this project. We wanted to show how important in the United Europe is the promotion of good co-existence of cultures developed on different roots and traditions, to support their mutual inspiration and draw on the common wealth.Members of Roma community were present in our project in each phase of its progress. They were asked about the problems they face, and were participants of discussions and partnership visits, often the authors, whose artistic products we were presenting in exhibitions, shows and concerts. We involved the local authorities in the project to get to know the range and the methods of realizing the European and governmental regulations concerning protection of minority rights. We were trying to the idea and realization of this project appearing in public opinion and, also, to become the reason for creating communal awareness in the spirit of tolerance, respect for other rights and points of view, acceptance of distinctiveness and eradicating xenophobia.
