RISE UP for democracy! Against racism and intolerance in Europe

The project "RISE UP for democracy! Against intolerance and racism in Europe" is an international training course for youth workers under the Key Action 1 of the Erasmus+ Program. It aims to form youth workers to trainings and workshop activities, to develop a united European network among the youth supporting democracy and tolerance values, against stereotypes and the rise of far-right ideas in Europe, after the last results at European elections. Its objectives are: - To develop a common understanding between participants and organizations, and instruments on the subject of the far-right rise in Europe to continue working together during following projects - To give the participants basic tools of dialogue in order to facilitate workshops on intercultural differences and communication, fears, stereotypes and discrimination. - To practice tools and methods of youth training courses in order to plan training courses and workshops back in their country for sustainable future development of the project at local levels - To explore the rise of far-right parties in a context of economical crises and how they use fears, people’s lack of knowledge and patriotism, to promote their ideas of racisms, intolerance and isolationism. To question what culture is, how it is created and how it is linked with nationalism. - To investigate the links between medias and politics and their role in today society, the necessity of the curiosity and the critical mind - To make the participants sharing their experience as youth workers and facilitate them to share their best practices through workshops, helping each other to develop their training skills - To discuss future means of distribution of knowledge that can be used to extend the impacts of the exchange at a local and regional level and promote it - To assess best practices and common pitfalls in the field of youths trainings The project will be held in Lille and will gather 33 youth workers coming from 12 Program countries. The participants which the project will gather are all members of the youth partner organisations, interested to develop their competences and to multiply the effects of the project within their local communities. The target group is composed of youth workers, trainers, motivated youth on the subject or project managers all actively involved in the youth sector. The program of the course will be based on non formal educational methods which combine theoretical and practical components and conducted using a highly participatory approach in order to cover all the aspects of the theme. Special attention will be paid to the fact that the competences and the knowledge gained and transmitted during the course remain sustainable and transferable. This will be achieved by setting up enough space and time for reflection and evaluation, by providing comprehensive documentation, handouts and guidance from the trainers’ team. Many of the theories about dialogue that will be subjected will be based on the book « The Dialogue handbook » coauthored by on of the trainers. The experience of the participants will be valued as a ressource for the whole group in order to achieve transfer of competences and best practices sharing. This will be essential for the sustainability of the project, to develop further training and workshop network at a local level and between the involved countries. The course will be based on the specific learning needs of the participants. The team of trainers will create a learning and exchanging space, where participants are encouraged and coached to use their creativity and personal reflection to train, work with youth, design new workshops and achieve development of themselves at personal and professional levels. A finished workshop pack will be given to the participants at the end of the training so that they can use it at the return in their own countries. The participants will then do a training course in their respective countries to teach to other youth workers training skills and tools on the subject. The project also aims to equip participants with a sense of initiative and an active european citizenship feeling, to encourage involvment to be transferred later to the target groups with which the participants work on a daily basis and within their local communities in order to achieve multiplying effect. The local communities will benefit of the added value of this training course get and involved in initiatives and actions on the topic which the participants will be better able to organize after their participation at this training course. Therefore, on a long term basis the project will bring an increase of intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding of the European values of tolerance, an increase of curiosity andcritical mind, self reflection and youth participation in society for sustainable social changes.
