This project is the first step in implementation of idea about renewing a bridge over the river Šventoji to connect Lenkimai (Skuodas district) and Rucava town. One of the main project activities is development of technical design for the planned bridge. Moreover, it is planned to develop feasibility study analysing road and transport system in the border area of Latvia and provide recommendations on improvement of it. Project will end with a conference on developed feasibility study. Conference shall look into the development of transport infrastructure in the cross-border area. Implementation of the project activities will generate ideas for improving road and transport infrastructure of the border areas. The design will then in the second phase be used for building of the bridge itself. This bridge will increase communication and traffic across the border and mobility of people in Skuodas and Rucava municipalities. Project will have positive effect on culture, sports and tourism development in the area, as people are used to travel across the border for casual matters: shopping, visiting relatives and friends, going to the beach in Latvia and other leisure places in both countries, taking part in culture and sports events, picking berries and mushrooms in the forest, etc. Project will lead to further development of road and transport infrastructure, as well as cooperation between local authorities and communities of Skuodas and Rucava.
