The project has focused on two key competences that are necessary for promoting active citizenship, i.e. respect for the environment and respect for diversity. The aims of the project are: - to encourage children to respect the environment as a resource to preserve;- to promote awareness of each other’s way of life, appreciation of diversity and to encourage children to discover different ways of finding solutions to the same problem.In addressing the first aim, the project has concentrate:a) on waste disposal and recycling during the first year.b) on responsible use of water as a resource during the second year.In addressing the second aim, over the two years, the project has valorised diversity by sharing cultural experiences and promoting respect for “the other”, seeing the former as an enrichment rather than a threat.The project has utilized a variety of methodologies such as:Peer tutoring, Story telling, Role plays, simulations, Use of ICT (use of software i.e. HotPotatoes, skype, Moodle etc.), Problem solving, Quiz, Questionnaires, Electronic Glossaries, Arts & Crafts, Interviews, Empirical studies, Web conferences, direct experiences of taking action with local authorities. To support the aims of the project we has also involved Local Government Representatives, parents associations, NGOs and the local media. The project has produced a newspaper, set up a platform for communicating and uploading and downloding materials, created a travelling mascot. The long term aim is to make the newspaper and platform permanent, drawing in local schools in each country
