Relating International qualifications to EQF – the Welding case
Start date: Jul 1, 2016, End date: Jun 30, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

The RAINBOW project has the aim of relating International qualifications to EQF in the Welding sector by addressing all European Welding Qualifications - EW/Welder (EW fillet , EW plate, EW tube for different processes (SMAW; MIG/MAG; FCAW,TIG;Oxigas) and materials (steel and aluminium), EWP/Practitioner, EWS/Specialist, EWT/Technologist and EWE/Engineer .The project will develop potential criteria relating the International Welding Qualification systems to the EQF (from EQF Level 2 to 7) and establish a common alignment methodology between Welding International Qualification (EW/EWP/EWS/EWT/EWE) to the EQF that serves as a model for both practical skills-based qualification and highly specialised qualifications. The EWF methodology for mapping international qualification to the EQF will be based in a minimum set of learning outcomes, assessment criteria, student expected workload and allocation of ECVET credit points. Thus, also includes quality assurance principles, mechanisms, as well as quality criteria for awarding EWF Qualifications. The RAINBOW project results will produce a significant impact in the entire EWF Qualifications System, as the creation of a common model for referencing Welding Qualifications to the EQF will serve a large spectrum of qualifications. The project outcomes can be used for benchmarking with other sectors, namely from the manufacturing sector, as an operational guidance document will be designed for the purpose. The project comes in complete accordance with the aim of the KA3, Support for Policy reform, in particular, to European Policy tools, for two main reasons:• it contributes to quality assurance at European level for enhanced transparency and recognition of skills and qualifications;• and it enhance the development of an EU Network by involving relevant stakeholders from the education and training sector and from the labour market, as well as international experts, EACEA and the Commission.
