Regional Development and Spatial Planning in the area of Eastern Gulf of Finland

The project main objectives are assessment of common challenges and development goals concerning spatial planning in the Eastern Gulf of Finland region; Analysis of land use constraints related to economic, social and environmental development (for example transport-, housing-, trade and commerce-, tourism-, recreation- and environmental protection issues) and; Elaboration of a trans-boundary maps on regional structure and development for the Eastern Gulf of Finland as a background material for further planning activities, planning evaluation and cross-border cooperation. Achievements: Regional Development and Spatial Planning in the area of Eastern Gulf of Finland -project focused on spatial planning dealing with relationships of land uses to achieve explicit goals (e.g. regional economic development, traffic, housing, habitat improvement, recreation and sustainability). Project plan covered implementation in the areas of Uusimaa, Päijät-Häme, Kymenlaakso, South-Karelia in Finland and Leningrad Region in Russia. Main aims were to assess common challenges and development goals concerning spatial planning in the eastern Gulf of Finland, analyze land use constraints to mentioned sectors and elaborate trans-boundary map on regional structure and development for the eastern GoF (up to 2025).
