The objective of the project was to prepare plans for the approval of a railway connection between Radics and Lendava, and obtain an expert assessment for setting the route location. Such a connection would fulfil the transport needs of the border area while offering the basis for further connections to Croatia and central Slovenia along the planned routes from Lendava to Murska Sobota and then to Bad Radkersburg on the Austrian railway network. Achievements: The activities which were carried out enabled that the objectives of the project were achieved. In the context of planning and investment procedures for the construction of railway connection Rédics-Lendava a part of study was made consisting of preinvestment scheme or feasibility study and comparative study of possible railway routes. Because of the change of the spatial planning policy there has also been a change at preparing the comparative study of variants. The study was made as an expert assessment and not as a part of spatial documentation or required procedure according to spatial planning policy. The implementing regulations specifying municipal and national spatial planning which also covers the said study were not yet adopted during the preparation of the comparative study. Despite this and based on the changed spatial planning policy the comparative study stilllegitimately evaluates variants and proposes the most suitable one. This represents a basis for further work on spatial documentation in phases which were not foreseen in this project
