The project ‘Rec’on the future!’ aims to highlight the several dimensions of young citizenship in regards to his different social contexts at the personal, local, communitarian, national, European and global level through a multi-measure training courses.
The participants, young active social workers, from the South-Western European countries and the Balkan region will have the chance to engage an intercultural dialogue through the process of creation of short documentary films. Thus, social workers will be trained to be able to develop methods for speaking the universal language of art and will be allowed to bring up political values, such as cross-cultural solidarity and citizenship in a creative way.
A story can always be told of different perspectives and exchanging and sharing those different points of view is crucial to a peaceful dialogue between several collective memories.
With « Recon the future » the social function of the cinema will be the main tool to share past and future visions of European citizenship. The main goals of our training courses are to improve learning performance, to increase self-empowerment and self-esteem and to enhance cultural awareness of our participants. Also to gain skills in movie making as a multimedia tool to bring up the dialogue between different communities.

Action 2 - They will attend lectures and workshops on active citizenship, diversity and intercultural dialogue held by PSM. Furthermore, the tutors and Dokufest will develop the audiovisual arts curriculum including screenings and presentations of socially engaged creative documentary films and media, as well as video workshops. The participants will produce 8 short films on a relevant topic.
Action 3 - The short movies previously produced will be screening during the International Documentary and Short Film Festival. Group discussions would be mediated between the participants and the public. They will also use the non-formal technics to approach the public of the festival to share their experiences and opinions.
Background of the project:
The European election in May 2014 made obvious that the European citizens did not experiment their rights & duties according to the rate of abstention. Instead of consolidating the power of the European Parliament and their voice in the process of democratic decision-making, Europe’s citizens decided to vote for euro-sceptical or radical right-wing parties and against the idea of a multicultural European Union. European civil society doesn't seem to understand the benefit of EU policy measures and feels that their needs do not find a political response. Underpinning European solidarity means also encouraging a vivid dialogue and to face old wounds of our common history. In this sense, the results of the European Elections witness that ancient fears and discrimination resentments are still alive.
Objectives of the project are the following:
1. To raise awareness about cross-cultural citizenship on different levels (personal, local, communitarian, national, European and global)
2. To promote an intercultural dialogue of social workers (18-35 years old) in Southern Europe and the Balkans
3. To use the social function of the Video as a tool to express cross-cultural citizenship in a creative and innovative way
4. To learn how to share his point of views on cross-cultural citizenships in the context of one’s own cultural background
5. To learn how to produce a short movie in order to re-use it into professional context as a tool to provoke an intercultural dialogue
6. To produce 8 short documentary films
