PROJECT
FINISHED
The project ReAnimate is a follow-up project of Jiggle Juggle. It has started from the identified need of different sending organizations for finding projects in which they can send volunteers that do not have a high level of English, but that are interested in learning, also because this will help them in future job searching process. Therefore, the project ReAnimate is a short term EVS project in partnership with P.E.C.O from Italy, Pistes Solidaires from France, Hajdúsági Hallgatókért és Civilekért Egyesület Hungary and Building Bridges Cultural Association , Spain. It involved 16 young volunteers, aged between 18 and 30 that speak no or basic English and that are motivated to improve their level of language competences. The services will last 2 months each and will happen in the following dates (July-August, October-November, January-February, March-April). Each service will include a group of 4 volunteers, one from each country. The services will take place in Baia Mare and the volunteers will have activities either in the office of Team for Youth or in the County Hospital of Maramures and in two orphanges in the city.
The local partners in the project are the Insitution for Child Protection and the County Hospital.
The main objectives of the project are:
O1:To provide a safe, inter cultural learning environment for a number of 16 volunteers (aged between 18-30) from France, Spain, Italy and Hungary, for improving English language skills from basic to A2/B1 level.
O2:To develop skills in animation (social and clinical) for the 16 EVS volunteers, during 2 months of service, by involving them in trainings but also by letting them experience implementation of activities with children.
O3:To animate the atmosphere in the hospital rooms of pediatric department of Municipal Hospital and to provide new educational opportunities for children and youngsters in foster homes in Baia Mare, during 8 months of different services of groups of volunteers.
The activities that the volunteers will be joining in Baia Mare are the following: animation for children that are hospitalized for a certain period of time, animation and free time activities for children and youngsters in foster homes, English and Romanian lessons, presentations of their countries, other workshops according to their interests. The main two methods used in the project are clinical animation and social animation. Both of them are about games, but more precisely about educational games. If for clinical animation the main aim of the activities will be to change the mood of the little patients, in the case of social animation for children and youngsters the volunteers will create games and methods that start from a learning objective (about mathematical exercise, about traffic rules, about nature, about animals, about weather, about team work, etc.)
The volunteers will be hosted in Baia Mare, in rented and completely furnished flats. They will have the opportunity to use a bicycle when they come to work (if weather allows it) or to use public transportation. Baia Mare is a medium sized city, therefore, it reduces the risks of getting lost, of feeling unsafe, of getting distracted from work. Each volunteer will receive support from a mentor. We identified mentors that are able to speak, on a medium or fluent level, the mother tongues of the volunteers, and therefore, not have strong communication barriers.
On a long term, the project aims at transforming these type of voluntary activities into constant one in Baia Mare and other cities as well, in order to create a long term impact on the development of the children in social care and, also, to change the aspect and the atmosphere in pediatric departments of different hospitals.
