Reaching Adult Learners Through Strategic Communication, Information and Dissemination
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Aug 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Åland Islands Peace Institute (ÅIPI) is a politically independent, non-profit foundation founded in 1992. The ÅIPI can best be descripted as a “think-act” organisation, which conducts projects and research into peace and conflict issues in a broadly defined sense from the vantage-point of Åland and the special status that Åland enjoys under international law. In its research activities the Institute focuses on security, autonomy and minorities, including the ‘Åland Example'. One of the Institute's main perspectve in all work is gender, and a big part of our practical work is carried is carried out in the framework of empowerment projects implemented with partner organisations across Europe. By arranging seminars and conferences and through a growing library that is open to the public, the Institute serves as a meeting-point for Åland, the Nordic countries and the Baltic Sea region. The current project is a adult education staff training project focused on strategic communication, information and dissemination, including five mobilities. The specific training opportunities we would like to seize will be identfied at a later stage. The aim is to strengthen the Institute's staff's capacities in strategic communication, information and dissemination. We expect to be equipped with new tools which will help us to identify and reach adult learners. The outcome of the training activities is expected to be a wider outreach to adult learners as potential participants in seminars, conferences, workshops or other fora. We wish to better reach adult learners and engage more people in civil society debates and thereby foster deliberative democracy and active citizenship. Our thematic focus lies on gender equality, violence prevention, peace work, autonomy, security and minority rights.
