Разкриване на многообразието: Историята, Религията и Културата, които ни правят уникални
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

We live in a world where it has become necessary to interact with people from different cultures on a regular basis. This has especially become true in Europe with the influx of immigrants and refugees as well as the open borders within Europe, which allow for greater freedom of movement between people of different cultures. Cross cultural interactions can surely be a blessing as they open up the possibility for rich dialogue and sharing, expanded worldviews, mutual learning, and even meaningful friendships. However, it is also the clearly the case that these interactions can lead to misunderstanding, prejudice, and conflict. For this reason, we are organizing the youth exchange project “Discovering Diversity: The History, Religion, and Culture that Make Us Unique”. The goal of this project is to help youth learn to appreciate and value their own cultures and the cultures of others, to learn to appreciate and respect difference in others, as well as to learn strategies for healthy cross-cultural interactions. During our ten-day exchange project in Tryavna. Bulgaria participants will have the opportunity to interact with people from different cultures, learn from one, participate in interactive learning activities together, and celebrate each other’s cultures. Each activity in the program will help participants to reflect on their own culture, become learners of other cultures, and grow in competencies of interacting and respecting people who are different. The activities of the project will include interactive seminars and small group discussions, simulations that will demonstrate and enhance learning, cultural evenings, a three-day social project, learning trips in Bulgaria where we will comparatively examine the history and religion of Bulgaria, as well as many fun evenings. Participants will learn through a variety of methods in order to enhance the experience: small group discussions, participant led presentations, high-quality simulations and role-playing, time for reflection and creative response, games, and observation and discovery. It is our hope and belief that participants will return from this project with greater competency in interacting with people who are different than them. People will return to their countries seeking friendships with people who are from different cultures, religions, and backgrounds. Not only this, but they will also be advocates who will be able to help their peers know how to interact in cross-cultural situations and respect people who are different than them. This will enhance the lives of the participants but also help create a Europe that is safe and tolerant of difference. “Discovering Diversity” will include participants from four different European countries: Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Bulgaria. Each country will send 12 delegates to participate and share their experience and culture.
