Raise your sails 2
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project „Raise your sails“ is a continuation of the youth exchange that took place in Estonia in 2014. The last year experience has been a great inspiration and motivation for the team of organizers to extend the impact and reach more young people. The previous project has brought to light an issue of young people having low self-confidence and -esteem that negatively affects their life. It results in inadequate definition of personal abilities, thus limiting the choice and future opportunities. We believe that youth self-esteem is a key to their potential. Through support and motivation it becomes possible to activate the potential that will have an impact on personal life and society as a whole. Young people that are aware of personal capacity and goals are more active and more likely to achieve results. Therefore, in order to bring up an active citizen it is important that education and training always provide not sole information and knowledge but also the skills that would help to carry out adequate self-assessment and increase confidence. High unemployment especially among educated young people is a good and dreadful illustration of the problem. This exchange idea thus is to fill the gap and provide young participants with the experience of self-learning, facilitate a goal setting process and through practical approaches to foster their active citizenship behavior. We hope to attain the results that indirectly might contribute to unemployment problem tackling on local or even international level. The dragon dreaming concept (www.dragondreaming.org) has been chosen as a platform that the programme and methodology of the exchange is based upon. In order to remain within the marine topic it was decided the dragon dreaming rename into the seagull John Livingston, providing with an additional working tool Richard Bach's book. The whole programme is designed as John Livingstone's journey over a sea of life where the participants represent the seagulls. Non-formal activities such as theater, simulation, strangers engagement and reflection will let the participants to experience new emotions and situations that will open up new perspectives on their abilities and skills, increasing their self-esteem and confidence. 36 participants including group leaders with certain personal issues, such as lack of self-confidence or poor awareness, will discover inner-self, learn about personal potential and will be able to set future goals with respect to their needs and expectations. We believe that the change in the participants will have a long-lasting impact not only on their life but also will demonstrate to a wider public - parents, friends, teachers - that self-esteem and self-confidence is the key to happy and successful society.
