Racism does not belong in XXI
Start date: Aug 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

“Racism does not belong in XXI!” is a youth exchange that will take place in Romania and Czech republic over a period of sixteen days (excluding travel days) and will include thirty two participants from Romania and Czech republic. This exchange will enable participants to explore the phenomena of racism and xenophobia on one hand but will understand also the implications of hate speech, inter-religion tensions and other discrimination phenomena on the other hand that lead to exclusion and social tensions. Moreover the participants will gain the ability to recognize racism, stereotypes and prejudices and acquire the skills, knowledge and confidence to challenge such phenomena within their own communities. The project will promote respect, understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity and allow participants to embrace the values necessary for a human rights culture, such as nondiscrimination, human dignity, equality and respect, and in this respect the young people will find out about the policies promoted by EU in this regard. Furthermore, the project will allow participants to embrace the universality of rights, regardless of ethnic/religious/national or cultural group, and become inspired and empowered to be advocates of the rights and freedoms of actual and potential victims of racism and xenophobia with a view to establishing a more inclusive and just Europe. The methodology adopted will be based on principles of non-formal learning with activities from Compass, Companion and All Different All Equal of the Council of Europe being implemented throughout, the use of games, theater, coffee shop, facilitated discussions and others likewise will be widely used. Participatory activities such as team games, role play, group discussions and wall magazines as well as co-operative group work shall allow participants to be actively involved in the exchange while sharing their personal experiences and making new friends from other countries. Throughout the exchange, real life will constitute a key learning device which will be depicted through the use of media as a source of discussion material. Visual tools will be used as a source of information and interest stimulation. There will be an ‘Intercultural Evening,' during which participants will explore the possibility of presenting their culture, traditions, dances, food in creative ways and the others will be able to appreciate the European diversity and this could constitute an extra point to encourage diversity and accept people indifferent of race, religion, ethnicity. There will also be an Erasmus Day during which participants will learn about program, possibility to develop further projects in this framework and/or in different actions of Erasmus+. Towards the end of the exchange the participants will prepare and present a theatre presentation on racism and xenophobia for individuals and groups from the local community. Throughout this exchange the participants will learn not only avoid prejudice and stereotypes but rather how to fight using knowledge towards all forms of discrimination (especially racism and xenophobia). The long term benefit of the project will be that the young people will promote this principles in their local communities, family and friends/peers and will promote a Europe unite against discrimination. The project will include persons with fewer opportunities (including minorities like roma). The main organizers are LUBLA and Scout Society.
