Quest for Quality for Students
Start date: Oct 1, 2010,
Improvement is a natural process, but is difficult to do with little information. Our students are rarely asked what their view on quality is when it comes to higher education reforms. ESIB is changing this by starting a Quest for Quality for Students (QUEST) project that seeks to identify a true European student viewpoint on quality and the ways to enhance it through a European student survey. Furthermore in QUEST, we stress that student should also be able to control the sources of information based on which they make their choices, thus we have also included this aspect of transparency. If mobility is a serious commitment, we need to back it up with clear policy that is drawn directly from the students. The survey will be complemented by desk research and exercises that will compare the views of students and match it with already existing tools like quality assurance which has rapidly expanded recently. Furthermore, QUEST will truly explore the possibilities to change by aiming at rapid capacity building of student unions so that they could lead discussions on quality to be student centred. This will be achieved by expanding a European network of student experts and by developing practical tools to be used by student unions. The main outcome of QUEST will be a Student Quality Concept that draws from research and will propose a truly student centred approach to improving quality and making it visible and which would enshrine students' views. The main innovation of the project, being the survey, will definitely change perceptions of policy makers and will contribute strongly to building a common European Higher Education Area by promoting availability of new modes of information and more evidence based policy making.
