During the last years the Russian Federation has been actively integrating into the Bologna process. In this regard ITMO University has opted for the internationalization strategy in its development road map. Europe has remained one of the most strategically important regions for ITMO University as the North-West of Russia and St. Petersburg in particular has historically and politically become the bridging point between the EU and the rest part of Russia. Currently ITMO University has more than 80 valid academic and research cooperation agreements with the European institutions, 21 of which were concluded in 2014. Under these agreements numerous joint initiatives such as joint and double-degree programs launched. An issue that arises within cooperation is quality assurance of higher education. In fact Russian and European academic standards differ significantly in various aspects. Specifically, in course of joint education and research programs carried out at ITMO the following trends have been identified: 1- integration into the European education system proves challenging for Russian students;2- the opposite integration proves difficult to even greater extent due to some national factors; In the light of the aforesaid the goal of ITMO University would be to bring together its education methods, practices and processes and European education approach in order to create a brand new internationally recognized education paradigm. Should it be the case, the EU– ITMO integration processes could become more effective. Following the example of such practice other Russian leading universities could adopt t similar EU-Russian-integrated approach. During the project a set of events would be arranged in order to facilitate the dialogue between European and Russian higher education experts and practitioners in order to work on the common approach to higher education. As a result of the project the ENQA certification at ITMO University should be launched.
