Proyecto de Internacionalización para la formación del personal del museo en educación de adultos
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Some of the main purposes of Parque de las Ciencias are to guarantee the science democratization, to promote the scientific culture and to generate infraestructures for lifelong learning. Since it was inaugurated in 1995, Parque de las Ciencias has worked in the organization and design of educational activities, which have been adapted to people of all ages and they have been oriented to guarantee the access to scientific knowledge, independently age or education. After we have analysed our customers profiles, we are aware that adults who are more than fifty aren’t using the educationals resources that the museum is providing them. Also, there is coincidence, it is that the adult people who are visiting the museum usually have high education. In this way, the main aim is to improve the adult educational strategies in order to engage more people over fifty and to make an effort to engage those who doesn’t have high education. The plan is to organize more programs, activities and high quality lifelong educational proposals, which encourage the educational level of adult people. The strategy planned has some purposes that we expose in the belows paragraphs:- To improve and to include the new methodologies in adult education in the program Cultural Volunteers.- To create new interactives experiences and scientific contents that meet the demand of adult people and to promote the learning in adult people independently of age and if it exists or no previous knowledge in science.- To increase the educational program for adult people (workshops, conferences, courses…)- To design a high level permanent educational program with proposals that will be mantained in the future.- To design an environmental educational program for adult people. This proposal will start when the new pavilion of Parque de las Ciencias, Biodomo, to be opened. Biodomo is an permanent exhibition pavilion which is dedicated to the research, conservation and education in environmental field). To develop this aims we have high qualified staff with large experience as teachers and who feel like to face news challenges. Parque de las Ciencias will provide the specific training that the staff needs in order to get the previous purposes. One part of the training could be solved with a international mobility program, in which staff could travel to other museums, considered like a models, to know in depth what they are doing to improve the adult education. It is very important that the staff who participates in the international mobility program have varied training and differents roles in the museum with the aim to fulfill the educational areas that we have exposed in the previous purposes and they are teaching, environmental education, design and production of exhibitions and interactives experiences. Thus the staff will participate in this program have very varied training such as Pedagogy, Biology, Art and Museology. We have proposed the following activities:Enviromental training (United kingdom and France)The Bristol Zoo and Countant Aquarium are the institutions that have been chosen to study in depth the enviromental learning strategies focused for adult people that both are developing in this field.New pedagogical methodologies training (Belgium)The Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences is the institution which the museum has chosen in order to learn, by job in shadowing, the new pedagogical methodologies that european science museums are developing in adult education. Belgium is one example in adult education and because of that it is very interesting for Parque de las Ciencias to know what they are doing in it.Design and production of exhibitions trainingDASA Museum, renowned by its high level in production and design of exhibitions, is an excellent place to observe interactive experiences which encourage the adult learning to create productive communication with adults learners.Parque de las Ciencias has agreements with all of the previous institutions that facilitates the development of the jobs in shadow. The heads of different fields in Parque de las Ciencias will be the responsibles to evaluate the personal who will do the job in shadow, as well as they will have a mentor in the host institution. The expected impact is the increasing of adult public participation in the museum and moreover we want to improve, as qualitatively than quantitetively, the quality of adult education. The expectatives in long-term are to improve the public understanding of science and to increase the scientific culture in order to engage the adult people with science. Something very important in Spain, which has been described as one of the worst european countries in scientific culture. An educated people has a very possitive effects not only on economy, but also in the freedom and happiness of society. The purpose of Parque de las Ciencias is to be a model in adult education.
