The majority of physically disabled students and adolescents who attend CIRIUS Kamnik have complex disabilities. Teachers and other professionals would like them to achieve independence in different fields of learning, training and living. Many have problems finding a job after leaving school. In order to help them CIRIUS will introduce some changes, such as helping with school to work transition, promoting on the job learning, introducing the concept of teaching modules, becoming a resource and service centre.Luovi is a similar institution which offers education and training programmes to prepare students for work and independent living, provides support services for students as well as experts services. We would like to exchange experience and examples of good practice. The Finnish school system is well-known for being very efficient. We would like to share teaching methods and approaches, such as team teaching and project work, including methods of work with students who are severely disabled and distance learning. We also want to raise awareness of lifelong learning. There are six participants of the project who each cover one field. The director and principal of the secondary school are interested the organization of Luovi as a resource and service centre. There is a teacher of Slovene who would like to see how the mother tongue is taught, including literacy skills. The English teacher is interested in innovative teaching methods of foreign languages. There are two teachers who teach vocational subjects, economics and electronics. The teacher of economics will present the practice firm, the teacher of electronics will present methods of teaching students who have emotional problems. The project will be carried out as a study visit in September 2016. We will visit Luovi which is located in Oulu. There will be presentations, discussions, workshops and good practice models. The participants will present CIRIUS Kamnik, teaching methods, educational and training programmes, practice firm. We will attend English, Finnish, vocational lessons, visit some working environments, including the practice firm. We will plan a new student mobility project and other ways of cooperation to establish permanent partnership. The project will help CIRIUS introduce certain changes in the field of organization: becoming a resource centre, better cooperation between school and employers, in the field of education and training: use of teaching modules, improving existing programmes. New programmes will be set up, suitable for students who are severely disabled. We will share experience, knowledge, new teaching methods , and good practices with our colleagues, other special needs schools, parents, local community, employers, and educational institutions. There will be presentations, written reports and articles, discussions, and workshops. English of the participants will be improved. All the participants will grow personally and professionally. Their self-esteem will be increased, intercultural awareness enhanced. Long term benefits of the project will be greater independence of students and young adults with special needs and their integration in society, better organization of CIRIUS and permanent international cooperation based on European Erasmus+ programmes.
