Promoting teaching of European integration and increasing EU awareness in Georgia

Jean Monnet Chair will establish two courses per semester in European studies for the students of the Caucasus School of Governance (CSG), Caucasus School of Humanities and Social Sciences (CSH) and Caucasus School of Media (CSM). In total, 4 courses in European studies will be taught every year. These courses will be:- Institutions and Policies in the European Union- History of European Integration - Europeanization of Central and Eastern Europe- Theories of European IntegrationCourses will be taught by a distinguished professor of European studies in Georgia Dr. Sergi Kapanadze, who has a ten years of teaching experience in various Georgian higher education institutions, including the Caucasus University, Tbilisi State University and American University of Humanities. Since 2013 Dr. Kapanadze is a Dean of the School of Governance and the Professor of the Caucasus University. Dr. Kapanadze is also an author of several publications/textbooks in Georgian language on the European Union and a former deputy foreign minister, who was in charge of the negotiating EU-Georgia Association Agreement. Together with the four proposed courses every year 4 roundtable discussions will be held with the participation of the high level policy and decision makers on the EU – Georgia related issues and the students attending the course. In addition 3 conferences will be held for the students on the topic – European Integration and the perspectives for the South Caucasus countries. In the Summer of every year, one week long summer school on EU studies will be held in Batumi for the students from various universities (30 in total). Also, every year one article will be published by the Jean Monnet Chair on the issues relevant for EU-Georgia relations. Online platform will be created for the students taking these courses, where all relevant materials will be uploaded on a regular basis.
