The Colegiul National "Simion Barnutiu" from Simleu Silvaniei, Romania is a general upper secondary school preparing students in several study lines as mathematics-informatics, natural sciences, philology and economics. In the IXth to the XIIth grades there are 696 students prepared by 45 teachers of various specializations.
The managing team of the school has identified some general needs of the school, needs generating specific needs of the teachers in the field of in-service training. Thus a mobility project has emerged trying to fulfill the identified needs.
The mobility project aims to answer to the following general needs:
- In the field of student centered pedagogical methods using extensive IT approaches during the classes
- Extending the number of teachers with extended foreign language competences (EN and FR), both for philology and non-philology teachers, ensuring thus the ability of the teacher to being involved in different projects and international collaboration actions.
Taking in account the stated needs three main objectives of the project emerge:
- Involving the teachers in training activities capable to diversify the applied didactical methodology, centering it on the students as the main beneficiaries of the learning.
- development among the teachers the digital competencies in informational medium, extending the didactical methodology relying on ICT and focusing on the use of interactive main boards.
- development of communication competencies in foreign language both for philology teacher and non philology ones (promoting CLIL techniques and the involvement in international collaboration)
Envisaged activities are :
- a 2 weeks job shadowing (observation period) for 8 teachers in St Joseph's School, Londonderry, UK
- in-service training courses for three teachers in the field of developing modern languages in St Julien MT, Lille FR and Oxford UK.
Expected results described in general terms: operating during the classes with various didactical methods raising the percentage of the IT based didactical methodology as of the on-line harvested information; the integration of ICT and CLIL in the class using extensively the IT equipments and the foreign language competences, extending thus the available information sources. On long term this impact will raise the quality of the education, will diversify the pedagogical approaches and will promote crosscurricular didactical approaches allowing a student centered learning.
