The project comes from an interests with in Landakotsskoli to
-improve and develop the art education with in the school
-to develop teaching approaches in ways that enhance creativity
-to strengthen the use of ICT and new media with in the education
-to develop evaluation and assessment within art education.
As a part of these aims it will also be in focus to look especially on how creative teaching approaches are a useful way to approach students with learning disabilities and students that do have the national language as their mother tongue.
The school has taken part in various international collaboration and has gained in many different ways. The school has had good experience in these international projects.
A new headmaster has recently been hired in the school that has experience and knowledge of art education and interest in developing creative teaching methods across the curriculum. The goals of this project are in alliance with the outcome of a report on Icelandic art education published in 2011. The report is written by one of the leading specialist in this field, Anne Bamford. Also helping to shape the goals was a report published in 2009 on art education in Europe. That same report was also used as aid to decide on what countries to visit.
The project will make it possible for 12 of the teachers and administrative staff to visit 3 countries over the next 2 years. The trips will be a mixture of research and teaching and thus promoting the development of a deeper relationship between the teachers from Iceland and the visiting schools. That also explains the length of each trip. After each trip the group that has been traveling will report to the rest of the staff. Together the staff will then decide on what is feasible to implement with in the school. These rapports will be made public for everyone through the schools website.
