Profesinių įgūdžių tobulinimas darbo vietoje
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The future of tourism depends on the quality of service and compliance of initial training of the employees with the needs of hospitality business. The employees need more general and practical skills-greeting the customers, politeness of serving people, motivation to work. The question of ensuring the quality of vocational teaching becomes more and more actual. The quality of teaching means suitability of conditions to enhance pupils’ self-education and their readiness to compete in the changing labor market, evaluating set quality requirements, goals and society needs. It is an integral part of teacher-student interaction and affects the high standard of training (learning) outcomes. We face external and internal barriers as vocational training still doesn’t have prestige in the society. Vocational studies are chosen by pupils who can’t study in gymnasiums, colleges or universities. Low motivation of pupils, coming from faraway districts and misunderstanding their needs influences the quality of teaching. Sometimes low qualification of teachers and lack of knowledge of new work technologies is also to blame. After finishing the school with the qualification of Hotel worker, the school graduates will work in hotels, guest houses, motels. Hotel worker teaching program is prepared on the bases of a model of European countries, where the employee is trained and has practice in a hotel, that’s why he is competent in the fallowing spheres: 1. Hotel housekeeping 2. Cooking in the hotel catering firm (bar, restaurant) 3. Serving hotel restaurant customers Recreation and services agents have placements and work in a hotel reception, they have to learn how to arrange accomodation, how to plan tours. They have knowledge about catering, work of a hotel, how to organise trips, are able to provide information to guests. The participants of this project also study these subjects (70% of teaching time is for practical learning). The modern concept of hospitality is very dynamic. Hotel guests’ needs are changing, requirements are increasing , so the service is individualized. Pupils in Klaipėda Tourism School have school-based practical learning in a hotel, bar and bar kitchen. After getting main skills, they continue practical training and work in cafes and hotels in Klaipėda, Palanga and Nida where they serve tourists from Lithuania, Europe and Russia. We try to enable our pupils to find out and feel what the concept of a highly skilled hotel worker is and to help them seek career in Lithuanian or European hotels. They need to know hotel housekeeping rules, prepare simple dishes and drinks, be aware of national cuisine and traditions, speak some foreign languages and be polite. Aims: 3 vocational school pupils will go to 4 weeks placement in Germany, Unitied Kingdom, Italy and Spain hotels. During placement, pupils will be provided with teaching program and it will be considered to be the practice they need at school. The project will improve all skills required for the hotel worker. Back at school the pupils will disseminate knowledge and information, show their skills to teachers and schoolmates. The project lasts 18 months. Results: Deepened hotel worker skills and competence, possibility to know the requirements of hospitality business of a certain country, technologies used, possibility to improve foreign language skill. This will encourage the pupils of schools –participants to be motivated and competitive in the labor market or continue their studies in a chosen sphere. Strong international links will continue to develop, they will help in future projects, shape the school prestige in the eyes of society, region and Lithuania. project duration 12 months.
