‘Applying traditional and innovative practices in family farms in Belgium and the Netherlands’
The project aims to provide students with knowledge about the traditional and innovative European practices in the family farms and standards in the field of veterinary medicine, animal husbandry and entrepreneurship by offering them to learn new theoretical studies and practical skills in a real working environment. This training internship will take place in family livestock farms in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The expected results will be linked to the training of 23 end-users who are students of classes XIth and XIIth, aged 17-19, for the qualification in "Veterinary Technician" in Vocational High School of Veterinary Medicine "Prof. Dr. Georgi Pavlov", Bulgaria on key competencies for their profession, as follows:
- gaining experience about the contemporary and innovative practices in the raising and treatment of livestock in the family farms in Belgium and the Netherlands;
- meeting the requirements of employment legislation and keep the rules for health and safety at their workplace;
- ability to work in a team;
- language literacy;
- acquiring entrepreneurial skills to develop a business and managing a family farm;
- networking and co-operation with farmers from countries that are leaders in global livestock;
Description of the main training activities for the end-users are associated with:
1. Management of family livestock farms;
2. Making prevention of animal health in the farm, primary and secondary examinations of animals without the final diagnosis, care for sick and injured animals giving medication in the prescribed by a veterinarian doses and formulations; sampling laboratory testing, preparing solutions for the treatment of animals against ectoparasites; perform various types of handling;
3. Planning, analyzing and reporting the results of the farm (recording sick animal, performing medical-assistance obligations: restraint of animals, intramuscular, intravenous, subcutaneous injection of drugs, measuring the temperature)
4. Activities of selection and reproduction in artificial insemination;
5. Care for animal aesthetics;
6. Perform disinfection of animal holdings and facilities;
7. Knowledge of modern and innovative techniques for feeding, milking and care of the animals; grading, standardization, purchase and sale of animals and animal products;
8. Knowledge of the labor laws requirements; meeting the rules for the protection and human treatment to animals;
9. Use of specialized software and IT applications for livestock farms;
10. Applying practices for environmental efficiency (sewage treatment in farms, animal waste collection and their processing into biogas);
11. Innovative technological solutions in building stables;
12. Technical facilities in the farms- equipment and agricultural machinery;
13. Networking with the local industry organizations;
14. Studying the experience of receiving subsidies and the support to start own agricultural business;
15. Financial and human security of veterinary service and qualifications of personnel; platforms to find work in the agricultural sector in EU countries;
The methodology to be used in the process of the project implementation is a combination of approaches and tools applied in already successfully done projects by our organization. Some methods are surveys to the end-users (before, during and at the end of the training period about the level of their satisfaction), expert evaluation and analysis performing by our monitoring persons, presentation of project results at local and national level, development and dissemination of information materials.
Training practices will offer great added value for the end-users because, it would increase their motivation, personal and professional growth. They will receive certificates for "Europass Mobility", ''ECVET'', acquired language and pegagocical skills. This will give them a better adaptation to a competitive environment after their graduation and advantage over other candidates when they are looking for job on the labor market in their chosen profession.
