PROJECT
FINISHED
We want our staff to further their education. We are a school with multicultural staff and pupils, which can be quite a challenge sometimes. We want to integrate all our students in the Austrian education system, but also work on the respect and understanding for other cultures and languages between staff and pupils. We always try to promote a lingustic or professional exchange with other countries. For our students, we offer lingustic, cultural or professional stays in other countries. The aim of this project is to stimulate an exchange with Turkey (the mechanical engineering department has already had Turkish guests at our school), as well as to promote diversity, didactics of multilingualism, and German as a second language.Multilingualism plays an important role for our personality. It is important for our students to understand that every language they speak is an asset, and no language should be regarded as more important than the other. Ms Lienhart has been chosen for the project as she is a multilingual language teacher who has been working for the past years in a multicultural environment. She always encourages her students to improve and work on their mother tongues or other languages. She is going to work closely with other language teachers at St. Georgs Kolleg, which includes observing other lessons, teaching and gaining insight into the Turkish school system. In our school there are Turkish students who have only lived in Austria for a few years. This project enables us to better understand them and help them integrate more easily.Ms Lienhart is already closely working with other language teachers inside and outside the classroom to improve the level of languages. She will incorporate the insights she gained in Istanbul. She is the head teacher of a class with a 25% Turkish minority. We also hope that other colleagues will continue with the project and take part in an exchange. This project should have as a result: more understanding for different school systems, incorporating positive aspects and applying them during class, raising the self-confidence of our Turkish students, improving the language skills of the participant and the students. As a long-term benefit we hope to raise the awareness of globalized and internationalized world and that better language skills are extremely important for that matter. Europe has always been a continent with lots of migrations. It is crucial in these times to see more of the positive aspects of these changes and be able to live together peacefully and in harmony.
