The MultiAugustinum offers its students the possibility to serve their obligatory internship in an international company. Interested students can choose a partner organisation from a list of well-known hotels and apply for a traineeship position to get an insight into the international hotel and gastronomy sector. The aim of this internship abroad is to gain work experience, to improve the students’ contestability and job prospects and to promote their international careers. However, in these three months, the students should not only acquire professional skills but also social and personal competences. Furthermore, they should improve their knowledge of foreign languages and get in contact with Europe’s cultural variety. This year four students, at the age of 16 and 17, want to take part in the Erasmus+ project. These students are in third grade and have a wide range of qualifications in the hotel and gastronomy industry, as they have already worked in various local and regional hotels and restaurants. Furthermore, the participants are very dedicated, determined, independent and eager to learn. Before going abroad, the participants are prepared for their new work experience. They get all the relevant information about the internship and their rights and duties as trainees. Furthermore, the teachers provide the students with all the necessary theoretical and practical knowhow, so that during the internship they can complete all the basic tasks and develop new competences. The skills that the students have to acquire in the course of these three months are declared in a learning agreement, which is discussed and signed by all three parties before the start of the traineeship. During the whole internship, a mentor monitors the participants’ work and meets the students regularly to talk about their learning progress. At the end of the traineeship, the mentor records the students’ learning results in a personal transcript. Additionally to this personal transcript, the students have to write a work-diary in which they take notes of the accomplished tasked and achieved competences. Finally, the vocational education and training institution evaluates these two documents and completes the students’ Europass. Students that serve an internship abroad benefit significantly from this experience. They can finally apply the things taught and learnt at school and they have the chance get to know international businesses and working practices. They acquire a wide range of competences, which benefit their professional careers and employability. Furthermore, they improve their foreign-language skills and establish contacts with important people from the tourism and gastronomy sector.
