PROJECT

The aim of the project is for the Erasmus + EVS volunteers to support the professionals in the areas of work which they carry out in the Rudolf Steiner Association for people with learning disabilities, both in the Occupational Centre “Taller Rafael” and the Supported Living Houses “Casa Rafael” and “Casa del Sol”.
The Occupational Centre “Taller Rafael” was founded in 1980 and supports 40 people with learning disabilities with ages ranging between 18 and 60 years old. It has different craft workshops (candle making workshop, weavery and book binding workshop), where each service user develops their skills, as well as different therapeutic activities (painting, dance, movement, gardening….).
“Casa Rafael” is a supported living house in which 11 adults with learning disabilities live together and are supported by 6 professionals and 2 volunteers. “Casa del Sol” is also a supported living house where 8 adults with learning disabilities live together and are supported by 4 professionals and 2 volunteers.
The aim of the support given to the people with learning disabilities is to provide them with the social skills necessary for daily life and an adequate training in the different workshops and artistic activities as well as personal and group support. The idea is to create a close-knit community of people (professionals, volunteers and people with learning disabilities) in which the individuality of each person is respected and nurtured.
The project asks for the participation of volunteers who form part of the civil life of the European Union, to carry out activities in the field of care of people with learning disabilities. Additionally, through the development of the Erasmus + (Action KA1, EVS) program, it is hoped that the young Europeans who collaborate in our institution will become more conscious of what it means to be European and will experience first-hand the idea that “we are all Europeans”. What´s more, they are given training in social services, enhancing their professional profile, which could be useful in the future when looking for work or setting out on a career in the third sector.
It is also intended that the volunteers participate actively in different debates and forums and that they learn about different aspects of the makeup of the European Union. These activities will take place both in our institution and in public sector institutions (principally the local council of Pozuelo de Alarcón and the Regional government).
