The EVS project within the Erasmus+ program is carried out in the Asociación Escuela Libre "La Casa del Sol" (nursery school), located in Arucas, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. This is a kindergarten for boys and girls from 3 to 6 years of age, whose main objective is the childrens integral development by a comprehensive education, based on their development not only intellectual but also artistic and practical. Teachers at all times maintain a proper attitude, being a worthy role model, because children at this age see and understand the world through imitation and play. Here the volunteers would be part of this process by supporting the work of the teacher (imitating the teachers attitudes that should be displayed in the classroom) and being a reference for the children during the ten months of the school year. Within this framework the volunteers main activity is accompanying the teachers in their preparation and conduct of the classes, Monday to Friday from 8am to 2pm and preparing some sporadic festivals or meetings out of this timetable. The activities to be undertaken by these young people are: collaborate in the morning to welcome the children, help to prepare the breakfast, assist in the activities in class, art activities, field trips, songs, tales, little theaters and play in the garden. All these experiences of the youngsters aim that the volunteers have the opportunity to develop new skills and abilities within themselves, and to let them discover the benefits of the Waldorf education. The volunteers will learn notions and methods to work with children, especially emphasizing the importance of being a role model for them. Moreover, they will have in mind the nature and we encourage them to have great respect for the environment. We offer young people the opportunity to learn not only the Spanish language but they also can realize a multilingual work, because we have children of various nationalities. The relation of the European volunteers with the families increases the intercultural dimension of the project by getting to know typical spanish habits with the Canarian families as well as other customs. Likewise this relationship is bidirectional since the young volunteers are welcome to contribute their ideas and experiences and also to carry out projects related to our work (arts, crafts, gardening, ...) within the ambit of the kindergarten.
