Power Shift is a global concept that was initiated in the US in 2007, and has engaged more than 40,000 young people in the ages from 16-30 around the world. In Sweden, Power Shift is arranged by PUSH Sweden and has been arranged since 2011. Power Shift is a politically and religious independent conference about sustainability which strives to be an inclusive meeting point that welcomes everyone between 16 and 30 regardless of background. The aim of Power Shift is to create a globally and long-term sustainable society in both ecological, economical and social aspects. Last year´s Power Shift was about economy and sustainability, and the theme of this year sprung from the idea of doing something completely new that we think has been missing in the environmental movement – to see how social and environmental issues are related to each other, how we can create a sustainable green youth movement, and how we can be the change that we want to see in the world. Power Shift has the broad objective of gathering youth from the whole country to discuss sustainability in a boarder-crossing way, educate youth in fields of organizing and political impact and reinforce the voice of young people in society. PUSH Sweden is relying on strong basic values about ecological, economical and social sustainability which will impregnate the setup and program of Power Shift. The goals of Power Shift 2014 is as earlier years: to gather 200 participants in the ages 16-30 years during a weekend for an inspiring and competence-building conference. To give educate about issues related to sustainability, inspire for active citizenship and give tools for turning ideas in to action Besides this, Power Shift 2014 has the specific goals to: Show the strong connections between social and ecological sustainability. Be the change we want to see, through working for diversity among participants and lecturers regarding socioeconomic and cultural background. The participants returns home with new self confidence motivation to participate in democratic life. We also want to contribute to knowledge-based youth politics by arranging a meeting between youth and decision makers and experts during the conference where we talk about the perspectives, questions and thoughts that young people has about sustainability and the future. Through the campaigns that will be created during Power Shift we will work for policy reform by creating opinion and push politicians. This will be accomplished by starting from the thoughts and perspectives of youth when we draw up the lectures, workshops and seminars between youth and experts and decision-makers. The material for these activities will be gathered from discussions online initiated from themes in a podcast about social sustainability that will be broadcasted before the event, and from meetings with youth in schools when we go out to market the conference and ask what questions they want to talk about. After the conference the participants will get help to keep in contact with, and support each other, through a structure of networks coordinated by PUSH Sweden. This will lead to a long-term non-formal learning. The result from this conference will be one or several campaigns related to the theme social sustainability, created by the participants during a creative Open Space session. Tools for collective intelligence and knowledge dispersion will produce new knowledge. People that have not, and would not meet otherwise will get to know each other and create new networks and forms to support each other. This will contribute to a more dynamic, diverse and representative movement of young people for sustainability. The important and powerful messages about youth perspectives from Power Shift will be communicated publicly during the last month before the national elections in Sweden and will contribute to a more holistic and visionary debate about the future of the youth. Our long term objective is the rise of a young, united and socially sustainable movement that pushes Sweden, Europe and the whole world in a sustainable direction. Every young person in Sweden will know about Power Shift as the conference to attend if you want to make an impact on youth policy, and work for a sustainable development in Sweden and Europe. We also want to contribute to the empowerment of young people in Sweden in general by showing what is possible and spreading tools for leadership.
