The development plan of “Liceo Porporato”, which will be implemented thanks to the “Erasmus Plus KA1 Learning Mobility of Individuals” programme, action “Mobility of learners and staff”, project title “PORPORATO SENZA FRONTIERE”, can be thus contextualized and synthesized:
“Liceo G.F. Porporato” is located in the centre of Pinerolo, a town North-West of Turin with a population of about 30.000 inhabitants. The area is close to the French border and has intensive contacts with French towns as far as culture, trade and tourism are concerned. It has also established a fruitful collaboration with Germany, enhanced by twinning between municipalities.
The establishment serves 70 municipalities and covers the whole area of the humanities with its courses of study.
Our school, founded in 1862, has striven over the years to evolve and adapt to the increasingly complex learning requirements, working in collaboration with other institutions with a view to promoting the European dimension of education, academic success and guidance, international cooperation. In addition, the school has consistently cooperated over the years with local institutions and has been engaging in exchange activities and study trips to France and Germany, during the school year, in partnership with other educational institutions. Moreover, the school has been supporting internships and individual stays both in France and Germany. Student and teacher mobility is also enhanced in the context of the dual bi-national certificate EsaBac, particularly with Lycée Honoré Romane in Embrun, Lycée René Cassin in Tarare and LycéDe Vinci in Montaigu.
Our aim is to strengthen the professional competence of our academic and non academic staff in order to improve managements skills and to provide the highest quality learning experience for our students. A total number of about 24 people will be involved in mobility projects, including the head-teacher and the members of her staff, teachers and administrators.
The support for professional development will also enhance the performance of weaker students and potential early school leavers, improving attainment in key competences for employability, such as initiative, digital and linguistic skills.
The development plan, besides strengthening the professional competence of our staff, will pursue the following objectives:
- Enhance the international dimension of the school, improving quality in teaching and learning;
- Improve the knowledge of good practices and of the educational systems of other UE countries, with a view to innovating and enriching our curricula;
- Encourage awareness of social, linguistic and cultural difference, providing opportunities of curriculum and career development with a view to increasing motivation and job satisfaction;
- Increase teaching and non-teaching staff ability to make a change in terms of modernisation and internationalization;
- Foster staff quality improvement in the field of foreign languages through professional development projects for teachers of non-linguistic subjects training in the CLIL methodology with innovative teaching tools and the use of ICT;
- Develop awareness of the value of an intercultural outlook in teaching practices.
In the assessment and evaluation phase, the project is aimed at sharing the results of the experience within the teaching environment and at broadening cultural knowledge among teachers. The synergy with European partners will lead in the future to new partnerships and collaborations.
The activities will be organized in order to involve participants, local institutions and stakeholders in all stages of the project , holding events for the evaluation and the dissemination of results. In the long term the school will benefit from a general improvement of the quality of the system, an increasingly effective synergy with local authorities, the increase and implementation of European and international projects, the consistency of the school’s development strategy in order to ensure student mobility and competence development, as stated in the “Europe 2020” strategy.
The Project aims to support positive long-term benefits on the participant institutions, on the systems and on the individuals involved in it, in order to modernize and strengthen the teaching and training systems. The actions are aimed to experience innovative practices, implement and transfer such practices once they have been tested and validated, with a view to designing new teaching programmes within our institution.
